For me, no visit to Paris is complete without walking up the hill to Sacre-Coeur and strolling in the narrow streets of Mortmartre.

And of course there's the pull of the Place du Tertre with its artists, its trees, the hubbub of voices in the surrounding cafes.

Of course, most of the time you have to accept that progress is only possible by elbowing your way through the throng of other tourists - but that's life! Montmartre is just too good to resent others enjoying it too.

Of course, there's so much more to see in Paris, but this little corner, more than anywhere else, retains for me that romantic touch that has always been associated with a weekend in Paris.

If you haven't seen it yet, Woody Allen's 'Midnight in Paris' is an absolutely wonderful film. Great fun! Just sit down with friends, open a bottle of red, and enjoy this homage to Paris and its culture.f

Browsing art in the Place de Tertre.

It's the colour that makes it special - in paint, people and place!

A moment of concentration, brush in hand.

But I also love just wandering in the narrow streets around Sacre-Coeur.
