A quick plug for
Nikon...
I am really enjoyed
using the D300 over the last two years. Less bulky than the
top-end professional D3 and D3X (and considerably less
expensive) it handles well, and produces great images. It has
now been replaced by the D300s, for those who want to add video,
but otherwise the new camera retains the main features of the
D300. One feature I love is the ability to fine tune the 'white
balance' to capture exactly the colour balance of a scene - an
in the scene above, where you have both daylight and artificial
light falling on the warm stone of the cathedral. But
other Nikon's are fine too - including the old D50, used for
many of my favourite shots. The trouble is, however good cameras
were five years ago, they cannot easily match the higher
resolution of newer ones - but that doesn't stop them (in the
real world, rather than under test conditions) from producing
wonderful images.
