I enjoy landscape photography - mainly because it gives a focus to the pleasure of being out-of-doors and I find that looking with a view to taking a photograph gives an added dimension to the more general experience on enjoying one's surroundings.

These galleries show only a small selection of the images in my collection, and are reproduced in low-resolution.

High resolution TIFF files  are available for publication.

The Alps in Slovenia - a wonderful area for walking in Spring and Summer. This valley is near Kranjska gora, a small town (and ski resort) near the northwest corner of Slovenia, where it borders on Italy and Austria.

Lake Bled in Slovenia, looking north towards the Austrian alps. Wonderful views across the lake and surrounding mountains can be had from Bled Castle, seen here, perched on its rock on the right.

About as far removed from the Austrian alps as you can imagine, this little village is in Friesland, in the north of the Netherlands. Beyond the 'sea wall' that you can see to the left of this photo, is Ijsselmeer, the huge freshwater lake that was once the Zeider Zee. The level of its water is several metres above the level of the land here - a phenomenon that you get quite used to after you have been in the Netherlands for a while, but which can be quite unnerving for visitors with an overactive imagination and an aversion to physical risk!

Back to the mountains - this time the Italian Dolomites; a wonderful part of the world for those that like walking in magnificent scenery. If you want to have the place largely to yourself, go there between the end of the winter sports and before the summer holiday crowds; late May or early June is ideal.

Early morning light warms trees and grass alongside the lake at Arsie, Northern Italy.

But for me, when it comes to walking, there are many delights to be had in England, including here in the Derbyshire.
